name: Doreen Green
canon: Marvel comics
age: 20
canon point: Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #50, at the end of her series
history: Here!
abilities:
In terms of superpowers, Doreen has 'all the powers of both squirrel and girl!' which... basically means that she's kinda like Spider-Man, but with squirrels. She has superhuman strength and agility (she can lift a truck, leap 30 feet in the air, and flip around like an acrobat), a four-foot long prehensile squirrel tail, buck teeth that can chew through metal, short retractable claws, sharp vision, and a two inch long bone spike that can pop out the bridge of her knuckles. She can also talk to squirrels, and naturally understands and speaks their language (which is called Squirrelese).
Doreen is also a good hand-to-hand fighter, and a second year Computer Science student at university! I, as a player, am absolutely terrible at coding, so the technical side of this won’t come up very often.
personality:
Doreen is an earnest, dorky goofball who loves Friendship, Justice, Squirrels, Computer Science, and terrible puns (in that order!). She tackles every challenge in her life with bulldozing enthusiasm and the self-assured confidence of someone who has spent a long time looking in the mirror and decided that they genuinely like themselves. Who cares if other people think that her squirrel powers are silly, or mistake her optimism for naivete? Squirrels are great, Doreen knows she’s awesome, and the rest of the world is just gonna have to deal with it and catch up. In the meantime, she's gonna have fun fighting robot dinosaurs on the statue of liberty, because that's the kind of thing she does in her day to day life.
On top of being an incurable optimist, Doreen is a very sincere and honest person who is terrible at lying, and equally bad at subtlety. Before her secret identity was leaked to the press, Doreen's way of hiding it was basically just stuffing her tail down her pants while dressed as a civilian, and shouting things like “CARRY ON STUDENTS, YOU'RE SAFE NOW, I DEFINITELY DON'T GO TO SCHOOL HERE" while fighting supervillains in costume at university. Doreen also tends to assume that other people are just as straightforward and honest as she is, which can lead to misunderstandings like the time she showed up on Wolverine's doorstep with a live wolverine, assuming that she would be able to speak to her namesake animal like Doreen can.
When it comes to fighting crime, Doreen always tries to talk things out before resorting to violence. She's a deeply empathetic person and a great listener who knows that people have their reasons for Doing Crimes, and she's surprisingly good at problem solving. This approach works better than you'd think, since many supervillains and criminals are caught off guard by her earnestness: she once convinced Kraven the Hunter to try hunting immortal sea monsters instead of Spider-man, and talked a rampaging anthropomorphic hippo into applying for a job at a demolition company instead of robbing a bank. Hell, she even befriended Galactus the World-Eater after redirecting him to an uninhabited planet full of nuts (the perfect snack food!). Half the reason she's called 'The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl' is because she's good at defusing situations before they turn violent in the first place. (The other half is because she once canonically beat up Thanos, but she tried talking to him first!)
That said, this approach doesn't work with everybody, and if her opponent is an actual threat then Doreen is fine with punching first and mediating later. She has been known to deliver bank robbers to the police with notes that say "Hello! I could use help with my anger management skills, and maybe a financial advisor!" taped to their shirts.
People often dismiss Doreen as a naïve, idealistic idiot who will give a hundred second chances to people who barely deserve one, but underneath all the optimism and dorky squirrel puns, Doreen is serious about her values and moral code. Her optimism is a deliberate choice, and she truly believes that deep down, people are basically good, and that nobody is beyond redemption. In her mind, there's no point in being a superhero if you don't think that people can change for the better, and she'll keep believing that even if it backfires on her.
